Name of The Game
Name of a project is always a haunting thing for developers. Sometimes people are fullfilled with ideas that go totally diffferent directions, while sometimes people can't think of a barely working one.
Initial Ideas
The theme of this game comes from a somewhat classic fantasy (WoW, DND), and player controls an army of monsters, machines, witchs and wizard, beasts, etc. Therefore the first name we think of is something like 'King of Monsters'. However we immediately feel it is too normal and will be buried in millions of other games. It's best if it delivers what the game contains, but also stand out.
Dogs & Demons
Then we think of DND, and there are Dogs and Demons in the card pool. So the project keeps this 'Dogs & Demons' as its name for a long time. It's also kind of a DND game. What's kind of uncomfortable is that demons is a collection of cards, and dog is a specific card. We try to find a new better name. During this time, you need to keep an eye on every story you read or caption in the items when you are playing relavant games or watching videos.
Current
The start deck for this game is a single goblin, which is regarded as the weakest, the most normal monster in DND world. Whenever a hero gets into a tutorial dungeon, the first monster alwasy be it. This is a no-brainer choice. And a friend of mine told me, after he played the game,he found 'Dog & Demons' weird too. 'Why not using "Dog & Goblin", since they are all 'normal rarity' cards. You dont have to stick with DND, because the game turns out to be nothing to do with DND in the end'.
I like the idea. Then I change my initial deck to 2 cards: a goblin, and a dog. It doesnt interfere with the gameplay too much, and also makes the start scene more symmetrical( there are 4 rows, you need 2 cards to make it not weight heavier on either side visually).
What else? Title of the game, string in the database, edit page on all social medias and platform... That's a lot of unavoidable work nowadays in a data-based world. We are lucky that it's still acceptable, until our game goes big! Hope that day will come!
